The impressive Procession of the Holy Face, or the Luminara of Santa Croce, takes place on September 13 of each year and follows the same route, departing from the Basilica of San Frediano at around 20:00 and arriving at the Cathedral of St. Martin.
On this festive occasion, all the streets that are interested by the procession are lit by candles that are placed inside iron structures specially applied on the profiles of the shops and on the windows of the buildings.
Furthermore, for most of the month the center of Lucca is occupied by stands and markets.
Do not miss the traditional fireworks display at 11.30 pm!
Unfortunately in the evening the connections to Lucca by train are quite rare, but with a little planning you can reach and return from the city by train either from the Agriturismo I Pitti (it is necessary to take the train to Montecatini Terme), from the Casa Rowe B&B and from the Cosy Apartment in Florence.
